CEMI Heads to the Newport International Boat Show

CEMI Brings Electric Marine Propulsion to the Newport International Boat Show

The Center for Electric Marine Innovation Inc. (CEMI) is heading to the Newport International Boat Show to connect with marine-industry leaders and share its vision for the future of electric marine propulsion, electric boating, and marine electrification.

This year, CEMI will not have a traditional booth. Instead, the team will be walking the show and meeting with boat manufacturers, marine-industry professionals, potential partners, technology innovators, and supporters who are interested in the future of electric marine technology.

The Albin 27: CEMI’s First Electric Marine Testing Platform

CEMI’s donated Albin 27 SC is nearing completion and will become the organization’s first electric marine demonstration and testing platform.

The project provides CEMI with an opportunity to explore electric boat technology and marine propulsion in real-world conditions while creating a platform for education, demonstration, and hands-on learning.

But the boat was only the beginning.

Expanding the Mission of Electric Marine Innovation

As CEMI looks toward 2027, its mission expands beyond completing its first electric boat.

The organization is working toward a future that includes:

  • Real-world electric marine propulsion testing
  • Hands-on education about electric boat technology
  • Public demonstrations of electric boating
  • Workforce development and technical training
  • Opportunities to experience electric marine propulsion firsthand
  • Collaboration with marine manufacturers, businesses, educators, and industry partners

CEMI believes that real-world experience is an important part of understanding the opportunities and challenges associated with marine electrification.

By putting electric propulsion technology on the water, CEMI can help create opportunities to test, demonstrate, educate, and build practical knowledge around the future of electric boating.

CEMI’s 2027 Fundraising Goal

To move from building its first electric demonstration boat to putting its larger mission on the water, CEMI. has established a 2027 fundraising goal of $165,000.

Funding will help provide the resources needed to advance electric marine propulsion testing, education, public demonstrations, workforce development, and hands-on electric boating experiences.

The Boat Was the Beginning. Now the Mission Begins.

The Newport International Boat Show provides an opportunity for CEMI to connect with people and organizations who share an interest in electric marine technology and the future of marine propulsion.

If you are attending Newport and would like to learn more about CEMI, explore a potential partnership, connect with the organization, or support its 2027 mission, we would like to hear from you.
